Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
By Tennessee Williams
On a sweltering summer evening, 'Big Daddy' Pollitt, the richest cotton planter in the Mississippi Delta, is about to celebrate his sixty-fifth birthday. His two sons have returned home for the occasion: Gooper and his wife Mae and their five children; and the fading football star and rapidly declining alcoholic Brick and his still childless wife Maggie. As the evening unfolds, a toxic cauldron of jealousy, suppression and deception simmers and threatens to reach boiling point. With its seething passions and occasional caustic humour, this play forces us all to confront how prone we are to deceiving ourselves and each other and to ask the question; is it better to live by lies or by the truth?
