Blood Brothers

By Willy Russell

Mrs Johnston is a working-class Liverpudlian - A single mother with seven children who is again pregnant, with twins, at the start of the play. She cleans for middle class Mrs Lyons with whom she contrasts strongly. Mrs Lyons suggests that one of the twins be given to her so that the child could grow up and 'have everything'. So the play is centred on twins who are inextricably linked in this way by birth, but separated by background and upbringing.
